Born and raised in the flatlands of East Oakland, Ken Houston, the Son of Oakland, is a life-long community advocate for bringing Oaklanders together as a whole while combating public health and safety issues that are horrifically plaguing and negatively impacting our communities.

Ken Houston attended Oakland public schools then entered into the Trades and joined the unions. After building his construction skill-sets, he began specializing in remodeling blighted properties, residential and commercial. From there, Ken Houston moved into community-based public works projects and created a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called the Beautification Council. As a community advocate, Ken Houston’s passion and drive has changed the face and image of the City of Oakland he knows so well by implementing his proprietary process and strategy. At the same time, he has put our marginalized Oaklanders back to work!

Ken Houston ran on these principles as a mayoral candidate in 2014 and 2018, and while he did not gain that position, he has never changed who he is or what he has been doing — Ken Houston has and will continue his mission to make Oaklanders proud to say, “I am from Oakland!”
